So I’m up to my elbows in cracker crumbs making dinner and discover three things called for in the recipe are nowhere to be found in my pantry. Guess I didn’t do too well in Week 1 of “plan ahead and shop,” did I? And on the way home from the grocery store I realize it’s pushing early evening and I have yet to take a picture today (Part Deux of 365 in 2010, remember?). Good thing I’m now traveling with camera in purse these days. I decide to detour around the block and take the long way home (name that 1979 band and album).
Understand these are not city blocks we’re talking about. My subdivision is smack dab in the middle of farm country and I roam for miles. Though a groaning scale is admittedly an unusual subject for me, my last few posts have contained run-of-the-mill photos and I’m looking for something a bit more aesthetic. The options in my neighborhood seem to be limited; it’s either cows or weeds. It’s not that I don’t think bovine are photogenic for I find them to be udderly fascinating. But it's dinner time, and those with whom I keep crossing paths are far too engrossed in herding ‘round the feeder to pause and pose. Obnoxious plants it is. This is actually a better option since it gives me a chance to play with the macro feature on my camera. I have no idea of what it is that I ended up photographing, but love the way it turned out!
Even on a cloudy, wintry West Michigan day I was able to discover something vibrant and beautiful. Had I not been looking for it, I would never have noticed it. Keep your eyes wide open and drink in what abounds in unassuming places!
By the way, the oven-fried chicken I made with those finally-seasoned cracker crumbs was absolutely delish!

Pretty. It matches your toes!
Interesting ... it looks like a mirror image. And yes - it does match your toes!
